Patient participation in the osteoarthritis management course
The osteoarthritis management course is based on interaction and discussion between participants in the course and the care providers managing the course.
One of the sessions is led by an expert-patient, a person with osteoarthritis, educated to talk about the lived experience of osteoarthritis, and with good experiences from self-management like exercise and physical activity. These expert-patients are educated by the Swedish Rheumatism Association, using the model from Osteoarthritis Communicators. Participants in the course often perceive information provided by a peer as more valid and applicable.
After the course, patients can join a local patient association if they wish. These associations often offer continuous group exercises, lectures or study circles.
