The BOA-register
To evaluate the effects of the osteoarthritis management course on self rated health, quality of life, level of physical activity and impact on work and other activities, standardised questionnaires are used at first visit, and after 3 and 12 months. The responses are registered in a new national quality register, the BOA-register. All information reported to the register is treated confidentially, and is protected in accordance with the Swedish law system. The BOA-register will, after ethical approval, be able to merge with existing national Swedish registers including variables like education, use of health care, ethnicity, etc. and also with databases providing cost per patient. This enables increased knowledge about variables influencing sick leave and the use of health care among people with osteoarthritis.
The ten pilot centres involved in the BOA project report data to the BOA-register (Mölndal, Kungälv, Munkedal, Trollhättan, Vänersborg, Malmö, Trelleborg, Lund, Karlstad, Umeå). After a consolidation phase, more centres will be invited to participate in the register. The goal is to have a national register with good contribution within a few years.
